Planned Parenthood to Receive Over $655,000 as “Navigators” for Obamacare

From the Foundry:

This morning, the Obama Administration announced the award of over $655,000 in taxpayer grants to three Planned Parenthood affiliates to act as “navigators,” helping enroll Americans in federally facilitated insurance exchanges under Obamacare. Those grants are part of $67 million in federal fundsthat will go to over 100 organizations to help promote the health care law.

Planned Parenthood clinics across the country could stand to receive even larger influxes of taxpayer dollars from state and federal coffers as more of Obamacare is implemented. As Heritage’s Alyene Senger points out, fears of low enrollment in Obamacare exchanges have prompted both federal and state governments to begin funding an army of taxpayer-compensated community groups that will facilitate entrance into the health care marketplaces.

Will Democrat Voters Support Obama’s Suspension Of Democracy And Calculated Deception?

From Forbes:

On July 18, President Obama held an event at the White House to promote Obamacare.  It was Calculated Deception writ large, which is Obama’s rhetorical style of taking advantage of what he shrewdly calculates the great majority of average Americans will not know, and what he is certain the so-called mainstream media will not tell them.  That smacks of third world style, authoritarian propaganda.

Obama falsely claimed, “In states like California, Oregon, Washington, new competition, new choices, market forces are pushing costs down.”  I have already discussed in prior posts the misrepresentation regarding proposed premiums for 2014 on the California Obamacare Exchange, drawing on the cutting edge work of Avik Roy of the Manhattan Institute.  The official press releases issued by the Exchange compared proposed premiums for individual health insurance in 2014 with health premiums for small business health insurance in 2013 to argue that Obamacare will not increase premiums after all in California.  Saying that is like comparing apples to oranges is not even adequate.  It is more like comparing prices of new Harley Davidson motorcycles next year to prices of new small buses and limousines bought by transportation companies this year, or dump trucks bought this year by small construction firms.

Congressional Recess: The Battle of Ideas

From the Foundry:

All the political action this month will take place outside Washington, D.C. And that’s as it should be. In a healthy republic, lawmakers hear from their constituents and then attempt to do what’s best for them and for the country.

This August recess will be an especially busy one for progressive (don’t call them liberal) activists. Ever since they were outflanked by the formation of the Tea Party in 2009, progressives have been trying to even things up. This year, President Obama “has urged his backers to spend the month speaking out on issues such as gun control, climate change and health care, part of an ‘Action August’ effort spearheaded by Organizing for Action, the advocacy group that grew out of his reelection campaign,” The Washington Post reports.

But the left has a problem. On each of these issues (and many more, of course), the general public leans conservative.

Weiner ad: ‘Powerful voices… don’t want me to win’

From the Daily Caller:

New York Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner released his campaign’s first television ad Monday, charging that “powerful voices” do not want him to become mayor.

The 30-second ad does not address the  allegations of sexting that have plagued Weiner’s campaign, but instead focused on his plans for the city.

“I’ve waged a campaign focused like a laser beam on fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it,” Weiner says in the ad, looking directly into the camera. “I’ve put out two books of new ideas, 125 of them in fact. Everything from restoring discipline in our schools to creating a single payer health plan for our city.”

Obama youth amnesty numbers jump to 1.9 million

From the Daily Caller:

The estimated number of younger illegal immigrants potentially eligible for the 2012 “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals” offered by President Barack Obama has jumped from 800,000 to 1.9 million.

The new estimate of 1.9 million was released Aug. 12, by the D.C.-based Migration Policy Institute, and it is 138 percent larger than the original 800,000 estimate announced in June 2012 by the Department of Homeland Security. The younger illegals are dubbed “Dreamers” by Democrats and sympathetic reporters.

Just over 1 million people are immediately eligible for the temporary amnesty, but only 8,000 have a post-graduate degree, and only 53,000 have a bachelor’s degree, according to the MPI study. In comparison, 20 percent of native-born Americans hold college degrees.

The Imperial President Will Act on His Own

From the Foundry:

In a recent email to supporters, President Obama lamented the frustrating inadequacy of his office. “There’s only so much I can do on my own” without Congress, he confessed.

As a matter of constitutional interpretation, he’s right. But in practice, the President has shown a distinct contempt for the legal limits on his power.

Obama’s imperial presidency has manifested itself in many ways. Often he willfully neglects his constitutional duty to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” As we’ve seen with education, immigration, and health care, suspending the law amounts to rewriting the law.

Shocker: New Survey Finds Nearly Every Federal Employee Rejects ObamaCare

From Forbes:

Who knew that when President Obama promised, “If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan.  Period,” he was only referring to federal employees … and himself?

A new survey of 2,500 federal employees and retirees found that 92.3 percent believe federal workers should keep their current health insurance and not be forced into ObamaCare.  Only 2.9 percent say they should become part of the new health insurance exchanges.

I suspect a similar percentage of private sector employees would also like to keep their coverage, but most won’t get that option.  What I’d like to know is how many of those federal employees so eager to avoid ObamaCare themselves supported forcing everyone else in it.

Former NSA director not expecting big changes at agency despite uproar

From the Hill:

Gen. Michael Hayden, former director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and Central Intelligence Agency, said on Sunday that he doesn’t expect significant operational changes at the NSA despite an uproar over its massive surveillance programs.

Speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Hayden said President Obama’s response on Friday to privacy concerns was telling for what it lacked.

“To me, the most telling thing he said was perhaps something he didn’t quite say. He didn’t suggest he was going to operationally change this program,” Hayden said.

Holder to revamp sentences for nonviolent drug offenses

From the Hill:

Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday announced that the Justice Department will no longer press mandatory minimum sentences against many low-level nonviolent drug crime offenders.

Holder also said he has ordered federal prosecutors to revamp statutes and provide more flexibility for judges in nonviolent drug offenses, including in sentences for people without ties to gangs or drug cartels.

“Certain low-level, nonviolent drug offenders who have no ties to large-scale organizations, gangs, or cartels will no longer be charged with offenses that impose draconian mandatory minimum sentences,” Holder told an audience at the American Bar Association’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

Democratic congresswoman: Filner should resign

From the Daily Caller:

Democratic California Rep. Jackie Speier has been “disgusted” by the allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Democratic San Diego Mayor Bob Filner.

Filner is currently facing sexual harassment allegations from 14 women, many of them members of the Women’s Veterans Association of America (NWVAA) in San Diego and victims of military sexual assault.

Speier, who has been a vocal advocate for victims of military sexual assault, explained to The Daily Caller in a Thursday interview that often, sexual predators will seek out and “prey on vulnerable people.”

“In [Filner’s] case, I think he was abusing his power, and I find it disgusting that he would hit on sexual assault victims in the military or veterans, I should say,” Speier said.
