Be careful where you donate money.  Some organizations are sending messages begging for money that are misleading and misrepresenting the facts.  In California a statewide organization sent this yesterday:

“We need you, Steve, to help us DEFEAT the Democrats in November and help STOP Gavin Newsom’s unconstitutional power grab on our Election.”

If they stopped at we want to defeat Democrats—great.  But then they want to stop Newsom’s unconstitutional power grab of our elections—of course we do.  EXCEPT—that has already been done by the California Supreme Court.  So the legislative Democrats passed AB 860, signed by the Governor which a repeat of the unconstitutional Newsom move.  Why was it ruled unconstitutional?  Because those changes had to be done by the legislature and could not be done by the Governor on his own.

Now, let’s concentrate on defeating Democrats and stop misleading potential donors.  The people who sent this email apparently think donors do not keep up with the news.

  1.  QUOTE OF THE DAY: “To describe what happened in Washington, D.C. as mostly peaceful protests, I think, is a lot like describing Scott Peterson as a mostly faithful husband or Al Capone as a mostly law-abiding businessman.” Rep. Tom McClintock on DC protests.
  2. Gov Newsom—who refuses to obey Federal immigration laws and still wants Federal funds—is extorting local government to kill jobs, families and theeconomy—forcing folks to become dependent on government.  Like a dictator, he is saying, do as I say or you do not get money.  In other words, he is ending local control of government—and your city will be run by the Governor of California.  From Politico, “THE CARROT AND STICK to back Newsom up here: funding. “We have conditioned $2.5 billion in our state budget on applying the spirit and the letter of the law as it relates to health directives at the county level,” Newsom said. “If local officials are unwilling to enforce and are being dismissive, we will condition the distribution of those dollars. Again, $2.5 billion. … So there are financial conditions, there is regulatory oversight, there is code oversight; all of those things are part of our overall efforts.”
  3. No school?  No students?  No teaching?  No problem.  Government schools will continue to receive ADA for student that do not exist, as if they were actually getting an education.  It is like the government paying FORD for NOT selling cars!  From The NOONER, “Governor Newsom signed an executive order last night extending previous statutory and regulatory suspensions, allowing In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) workers to work remotely, and extending the ADA hold harmless provisions for schools shut down.”
  4. Reason for much higher “positive” virus cases in California—one source—testing.  From CalMatters, “Statewide testing capacity has increased in the meantime, he said, to a record of nearly 106,000 tests on Sunday.”  So when you see the new cases—they were already here, with no problems.  The serious cases still come from two sources—prisons and homes for the elderly.  Use data not politics to make decisions.
  5. Thanks to mismanagement, promotion of unions over students, classes that teach bigotry, hatred and division among the students, plus corruption, lots of school districts are in deep financial trouble.  Please note that NEXT year, many districts will collapse financially.

This is from CalMatters, “That will strain districts that entered the pandemic with shaky finances and little savings. Forty California districts had qualified budget certifications this past school year, according to the state Department of Education, meaning they’re at risk of insolvency within the next three years. Another five school districts are at risk of going bankrupt during the coming school year: Sacramento City Unified; Sweetwater Union High in Chula Vista; Dixon Unified in Solano County; and Southern Kern Unified and Belridge Elementary in Kern County.”

(Periodically the California Political News and Views will publish tidbits of political news, to keep you in the loop of what the pooh bahs know.  The phrase “tom/tom’s” comes from my mentor, Lorelei Kinder who never passed a rumor, just called to tell me what she heard on the “Tom/Tom’s”.  This column is named in her honor.)
