What Did Gov. Newsom Do Right for California Taxpayers?

There is little debate that California is a harsh, anti-taxpayer environment ruled by a tax-happy majority party.  However, in this super-partisan environment that grips both California and the entire nation, it is important to point out when our political adversaries do something positive.

In that spirit, let’s acknowledge what Gov. Gavin Newsom did right for California’s taxpayers.

First, he vetoed Senate Bill 268, which would have weakened important tax transparency laws that the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association fought hard to enact several years ago. Specifically, SB268 sought to alter Assembly Bill 809 and AB195 (2015-2016) which, taken together, require that the rate of a tax, its duration, and amount of money sought to be raised be included in the ballot label for local bond and special tax measures, including parcel taxes. That ensures that this critical information is visible to voters on the ballot itself, and not just printed in a separate voter information pamphlet.

The ballot label is commonly the last thing taxpayers see before voting on a measure, and is the most accessible way to reach voters. SB268 would have removed this information for local bonds and some parcel taxes, to instead bury it in the voter information guide, far from the eyes of most voters.

  1. I will tell you what he has don to the tax payer! He signed a Rent Control Law without considering the effect it would have on renters. Now there are going to be ten’s of thousands of people evicted because of greedy landlords. They will sell the houses out from under the renters. That way can buy another house and charge as much as they want.

I am one of those renter who is now having the house I live in being sold! The landlord even lied to me and told me that she was turning my property over to a property management company so she could retire. The Agent however told me otherwise. The house is for sell to investors and I will have to deal with numerous showings. Starting this Saturday.

I don’t have the money to move and assume that I am not alone.

    • I not sure what you are crying about. Are you saying that YOU not the OWNER of the property should say when and if the OWNER should be able to sell their own property ? I don’t know how that could be more un-American . Buy your own house like they did and stop demanding that you should control everyone else’s rights.

IF he’s so concerned about the voters and taxpayers – where’s the newest gas tax proceeds going??? Ain’t what we voted for!!!! Lyin’ scumbag!!!!

  3. Disgusted Californian says

Speaking of taxes – where’s the money from the newest gas tax going? It AIN’T going to where the taxpayers/voters approved – the roads – Newsome’s already comandeered that for other purposes. And – speaking of taxes – where’s the rebates we should get for re-cycling, now that the companies are going out of business. CA is keeping that, I’m guessing!!! That’s all we are – taxpayers = dairy cattle to be milked and milked dry of money!!!

Now that this is known, how about recalling him. Gray Davis was a conservative compared to him. Even moonbeam was a bit better.

  5. Grandpa dog says

Don’t forget the brilliant voters of California gave Gavin Newsom The power to raise our gas taxes, DMV fees and registrations anytime he likes without voter approval. I’m sure that’s coming next to pay for some useless projects we don’t need from his buddies.
