2020 Democrats Blaming Trump’s Rhetoric for Shootings

Democratic presidential candidates sought to lay blame Sunday on President Donald Trump following a pair of mass shootings in Ohio and Texas, saying his language against minorities promotes racial division and violence.

At public events and on television, several candidates pointed to a need for more gun restrictions, such as universal background checks. But they directed much of their criticism at Trump, seeking to draw a link between the shootings in Dayton and El Paso that have left more than two dozen dead and months of presidential rhetoric against immigrants and people of color.

“There is complicity in the president’s hatred that undermines the goodness and the decency of Americans regardless of what party,” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker said. “To say nothing in a time of rising hatred, it’s not enough to say that ‘I’m not a hate monger myself.’ If you are not actively working against hate, calling it out, you are complicit in what is going on.”

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said confronting white nationalist terrorism would be embarrassing for a president who “helped stoke many of these feelings in this country to begin with.”

“At best, he’s condoning and encouraging white nationalism,” Buttigieg said. …

  1. SHANE CONWAY says

If one is arrested and convicted of a felony as a juvenile, your records are expunged and your convictions are all thrown out after you become an adult. That means that you can then go out and legally buy a gun and continue to break the laws. You have got to change that. A seventeen year old murderer can wipe the slate clean a few short years later and continue his life of crime. And then there is the issue of plea bargaining. The police arrest people everyday for committing felonies. But your district attorneys and prosecutors routinely drop those charges to misdemeanors. That means those felons are able to continue buying guns. Tell your elected district attorneys you have had enough. Tell your elected representatives in Sacramento and Washington, DC you have had enough. Banning guns will only make you more vulnerable.

  3. Everybody keeps saying that we have to do something to stop the shootings. The problem is that there is really nothing you can do. They say background checks are needed but the last two shooting the guns were legally purchased so that seems pretty useless. The dem candidates have pretty much all said we have ban military weapons because they are weapons of war. The ones that have served have just shown themselves to liars because they should know the difference. A military weapon has a selector switch that allows you to fire one round per trigger pull or a burst mode that fires 3 rounds per trigger pull or full automatic. The AR 15 and similar weapons do NOT have this option. Not to mention that no military in the world has ever used or wanted to use the AR 15. There has not been one gun law that has passed or even been proposed that would have stopped one shooting of any kind in this country. All any of these silly laws do is affect the law abiding gun owner who is not going to go shoot people anyway and the bad guys can always get the guns they want on the black market. So the real answer to what can we do about is NOTHING
