Obama seeks ‘obsessive’ effort from supporters

Five days after President Obama delivered a lackluster performance in his faceoff with Republican Mitt Romney, he is still trying to shake a post-debate hangover and convince loyalists he has what it takes to win the election.

At a fundraising event in San Francisco on Monday night, Mr. Obama repeatedly told the crowd how competitive he is and exhorted them to get to work on his behalf because he “very much intends to win this election.”

With polls showing the race tightening to a neck-and-neck race — in the latest The WashingtonTimes/Zogby poll, Mr. Romney closed a 9 percentage point gap — Mr. Obama said his supporters will need to work overtime for him to pull off a win.
