President Obama’s cash crusade gets under way

President Obama’s 16-hour Bay Area fundraising whirlwind, which began Wednesday and is expected to net more than $4 million, confirms a sobering fact of the 2012 campaign: California voters with a checkbook in hand are much more likely to see the president in the flesh.

Obama touched down at Moffett Field in Mountain View at about 6:30 p.m. before being whisked to Woodside for a $38,500-per-person fundraising dinner for 60 donors at the home of Doug Goldman, an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune and part of the environmentalist and philanthropic Goldman family.
