From SJ Mercury:
A ubiquitous TV ad campaign by tobacco companies has cut significantly into the support for a tobacco-tax initiative with less than two weeks to go before the election.
Voters back Proposition 29 by 53 percent to 42 percent, but that represents a steep drop from a much stronger base of support earlier this year, according to a poll released Wednesday by the Public Policy Institute of California. Only two months earlier, two-thirds of likely voters said they would vote to increase taxes on cigarettes by $1 a pack to support cancer research.

I hate cigarette smoking, but I hate California politicians fishing for tax money they can spend without having to be accountable for even more.

This is just another ploy to get something in the State coffers. When and if it does happen, watch the Legilature start to salivate at the mouth and listen to them “Oh more money to spend!”
I don’t smoke, but I am against the latest tax ploy. We haven been taxed to death and it needs to stop!
Unfortunately, it creates another bloated bureracracy in California, creates another “king pin” position. who “appoints his own staff. I refuse to vote for ANYTHING that raises taxes in California. ANYTHING
