Frank: The Case for Assemblyman Kevin Kiley for Governor

Frank: The Case for Assemblyman Kevin Kiley for Governor

Stephen Frank, Exclusive to the California Political News and Views, 7/9/21—update 8/5/21

This is important especially for California Republican Party delegates.

This is especially important if you are a delegate to the California Republican Party convention on Saturday.

During the Viet Nam War, the Left had a saying, “What did you do in the War, Daddy?”.  The purpose was to point out those who stood by and did nothing or supported the War.  Or those that rallied, marched, protested and were actively involved in ending the War.

That brings me to the Newsom Recall.  To me it is a War—a war to save California, to return to honest government, to send a message that the people control the government, the government does not own the people.

JOB ONE is to pass the Recall.  If we don’t, who cares who got the most votes or had the splashiest commercials or was able to get the most print?  I am glad there will be many candidates—each will bring voters to the polls and articulate why Newsom has to go?

In 2003 Arnold Schwarzenegger—who did nothing for the Simon for Governor campaign in 2002, decided three days before filing closed to PARACHUTE into the race.  Using his celebrity and smile, no one questioned what he knew about government, policy, and the players in Sacramento.  He was a star and that is all that mattered.

To them, who decided to run for Gvoernorl, I have just one question, “WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR, DADDY?”

While the grassroots worked fairs, door to door, churches, small gatherings, what did you do?  While folks spent 24/7 promoting the need for the Recall by doing face to face meeting around the State, ZOOM events, show us you worked to get your supporters and volunteers to distribute petitions, write letters to the editor and challenge Governor Newsom.

We have seen a billionaire few have heard of PARACHUTING into the race.  We have seen a celebrity PARACHUTE into the race.  Neither were involved in the Recall nor know the issues of the State and how to handle them.

The next Governor has to be THE Governor.  Arnold got elected, and like Robert Redford at the end of the movie The Candidate. Had to ask, now what do we do.  Arnold hired staff and they destroyed the Republican Party and gave direction to the Democrats on how to destroy the State—i.e. AB 32 which killed jobs, companies and raised the cost of living in California.

The next Governor needs to be someone of energy, intelligence and knowledge.  Not for the next 41 days till the election, but has shown a desire to make California better, willing to sacrifice over the long term.

That brings me to Assemblyman Kevin Kiley.  Yes, he has been a consistent voter for California values in the legislature.  But, he is not a back bencher.  While others were pontificating about the horrors of the California economy, he successfully sued the Governor, he wrote a book on why Newsom should be Recalled.  While others look at how they would sound more like the Democrats or literally stay out of the fray, or planning on spending millions of their own money—Kiley was getting his people, from around the State to distribute petitions, he was speaking at large and small groups, he took to the media to educate the public why Newsom had to go.

Politics is different today.  Old Fashioned campaigning no longer does the trick.  In the 1960’s there was a phrase, “don’t trust anyone over 40”.  Kiley is a Harvard grad, a former prosecutor, an Assembly member—and just 36 years old.  Unlike the other candidates he has the knowledge and able to relate to Millennials.

Finally, the people involved in the Recall effort, the workers, know he was shoulder to shoulder with them.  These are now seasoned veterans of politics, communities and understand what it takes to work hard in politics.  They are not keyboard commandos.  They are not philosophical observers—Kiley is the only candidate who can organize trained, experienced volunteers to work for his election.  He has been to most of the counties in the State, promoting the Recall and California values.  From my calls around the State, it appears he can have his grassroots organized in a few days.  Probably the only candidate that will have that advantage.

The bottom line is simple.  We need to pass the Recall.  At the same time we need to elect someone ready on day one to Govern.  We do not need a Robert Redford, or an Arnold who will depend on staff.

It appears Assemblyman Kevin Kiley has what it takes to win—and to be a Governor for all California. We need a candidate with a PLAN not a PARACHUTE.

(Disclosure—I have endorsed Assemblyman Kevin Kiley for Governor)

    Most friends are supporting Elder.
Kiley brought the lawsuit but holds some RINO positions, they say.
Do your research but be sure to vote YES.
    Thats job number One

    • Elder is more of a RINO (does not affect my vote) and also recently claimed Biden won fair and square and called himself a Romney supporter (a RINO). If Elder doesn’t believe election integrity is a current issue, he is not getting my vote.

  2. Any of the replacement candidates is better than Gruesome! Recall Gruesome for sure.

  3. I just wonder two things, will Trump support Kiley and are the people in California smart enough to support Kiley?

  4. Typically, I agree with you Steve. Until this article. Yes, Kevin Kiley went to Harvard. Sounds quite unimpressive nowadays to be churned-out from that liberal indoctrination factory. Then, Kevin was said to have supported John Kasich for President in 2016. Over Trump? Wow that won’t fly too well. Is Kiley a RINO? Unsure, but any support given in favor of RINO John Kasich shows serious misguidance.

There are 46 ‘candidates’ for the Gubernatorial Recall Election. 24 of which are ‘Republicans’, 9 of which are Democrats. LARRY ELDER is polling at #1 above ALL. I hope WE can ALL get in support of ONE choice. For most folk, the choice is Larry Elder for all the right reasons.
As an Assemblyman, Kevin Kiley could be very effective and helpful Larry Elder as Larry settles into his new role as the Governor.

This is a critical election. WE must have cohesion here. WE are hungry for Leadership within this great state Larry Elder spoke to 2 large groups in both Tehachapi and Bakersfield yesterday detailing-out the issues we face and how to solve them. The crowds were engaged, enthralled and energized. You could hear the chanting, “LARRY ELDER FOR GOVERNOR!” echo down the valleys.

  5. Fran Freedle says

It’s clear to me that Kevin Kiley is ready to be Governor. He knows what to do and will take action. I do not have the same confidence in the rest. We need the youth, energy, intelligence, commitment and sheer drive that he shows in his actions. The other candidates appear to be asleep in comparison.

  6. I see that Elder is not showing up to debates with other Republicans. How much does he know about our state government? Does he know how many assembly and state senate seats we have, and what the super majority is? Does he know that the CA dept of housing is mandating high density housing in every town and city? Anyone can speak in 30,000 ft platitudes, but yes, who is ready to start working and undoing the mess that Gavin created on day one?
I think it is Kevin Kiley.

I have also heard that Elder is a fiscal conservative, but socially, not so much.
When will that info come out?

I hope soon. People need to know.

    • I must agree, on all points. Elder is overrated. Not the most qualified, not the most capable, excel only at monologue, an effective talker but not much of a doer. Elder followers are clueless that he is not the Conservative they think he is, which is no an issue with me but Kiley is just much much more qualified to be Governor.

  7. Barbara Jensen says

What I like about Kevin Kiley is that he has had years of experience working with these people in the legislature and working with the current governor.

We need a candidate who is going to be able to hit the ground running immediately after being elected. There is going to be very little learning curve with this one. Who knows the ins and outs of the legislature better than the Assemblyman who is living it daily?

Moreover, Kiley has a law degree from Yale University. If anybody knows what we can do with laws in California, it’s Kevin Kiley. I adore Larry Elder and think he Is a great talk show host. But we don’t need a talk show host.

We need a legislator and governor!

  8. Jay L. Stern says

Larry Elder will bring voters out to vote FOR recall of Gruesome. No one else will. They will then vote FOR Larry for governor. Larry has a law degree from University of Michigan. He ran a successful law firm. He clearly understands California’s myriad laws. He would not have a long-running, syndicated radio program if he was less than excellent. I won’t consider ANYONE else. Certainly not John Cox who ran his last campaign out of a post office box in San Diego. He fooled some people, but I am NOT a COX SUCKER. Then there is Bruce/Kaitlyn Jenner. NO. What you wrote about Kevin Kiley is wonderful. Keep him in the legislature.

    • Where was Larry during the recall petition phase? He sure didn’t do anything to help get signatures. Didn’t bother to show up for the debate, keeps referring to Newsom as ‘my opponent’, stated he found his running mate for when he runs next year. This is not an election where he is running against Newsome and a Governor candidate doesn’t have a running mate… That’s how much Elder knows about State Gov election!

  9. OMG- Don’t be a Cox Sucker. That is too funny for most funny! I met that guy twice. Not personable and really, really stuck on himself. He uses store bought issues that are well worn, mixed up and fall flat on the floor. The huge picture of himself on the rear of his tour bus had a big rear view camera mounted there looked like he was growing a third eyeball out of his forehead. Not detail oriented.

I like the Sage From South Central the best so far. Only 86 candidates running. Gavin forgot his hair gel on T.V. a couple days ago standing outside somewhere where it was very hot and very windy. Looked more like the Mayor of Whoville in a hurricane.

  10. Kiley all the way!
The most qualified, the most experienced in CALIFORNIA State Government, the most knowledgeable of the Constitution, contributed the most to the Recall effort..
