Shape up or ship out: California requires ships, trucks to eliminate thousands of tons of pollution

How does Newsom and his anti-job people kill a whole industry?  By making it too expensive to operate in California, based on no science and junk science.  Lawyers get the money, government the power and the consumer gets the bill.

“Diesel trucks, oil tankers and other ships must comply with two new rules that are the state’s most ambitious strike against smog in a decade. The cost could reach nearly $7 billion.

Ships and trucks will be required to cut thousands of tons of air pollution in communities near ports, freeways and warehouses under a pair of rules unanimously adopted by the Air Resources Board today.

The rules overhaul regulations for diesel truck exhaust and expand emission reductions from ships idling in California’s ports. The two rules, when fully implemented, are expected to eliminate some 10,000 tons of pollution per year, the state’s biggest strike against smog in twelve years.

Newsom is adding $7 billion to the cost of transportation of goods across California.  Why are folks fleeing?  Democrats are pricing you out of the State.

In summary

Diesel trucks, oil tankers and other ships must comply with two new rules that are the state’s most ambitious strike against smog in a decade.

Some of the nation’s most powerful businesses — oil companies, engine manufacturers and ports — opposed the new rules, saying the battered economy cannot weather changes that could reach nearly $7 billion. The air board’s hearings on the two rules lasted about more than eight hours, with dozens of people voicing support and opposition.

Moving goods from ship to truck to warehouse accounts for nearly a third of California’s economy, but about half of its air pollution. Much of the pollution affects disadvantaged communities and communities of color near ports, freeways and freight corridors.

Diesel trucks are California’s number one source of a key ingredient of smog called nitrogen oxides, and they produce about a quarter of cancer-causing soot emitted statewide. Although federal efforts to clean up trucks have stalled, California will nevertheless need to slash nitrogen oxides and soot in order to meet federal health standards.

California owner-operator truckers: pack your household goods in your trailers & leave.
Trucking companies: rent your rigs to your drivers for $1 per day so they can pack up & leave Crazifornia; and offer your drivers bonus pay to move your headquarters out with them.
Ship’s & shipping companies: pull up your anchors, fire up the boilers & sail away to fairer shores & shires.
There are plenty of Gulf Coast ports that will welcome you with open arms.

James. Excellent comments. Trucking companies stopped coming here years ago including our relatives in Canada that have several hundred trucks and travel all of North America. Let everything come to a grinding halt. An extremely high percentage of our needed consumer goods (including food) move by truck. Diesel is far too expensive in Marxifornia. Check out the price across the country. Texas fuel prices are always $1 to $1.50 per gallon less than here.

  3. Forget Corona-virus. No ships, no trucks to transport goods, California will starve to death. Welcome to the New California.

  4. Bogiewheel says

How will you charge a battery-operated truck when there’s no electricity; that is…..nothing dependable.
And, what would be the cost?
If Newsom has a plan it would be to mount propellers on trucks to continuously charge the batteries as you drive.

  5. All this and no mention of airplane travel and transport! This is the “unmentionable” because people everywhere complain about airplane particulate and pollution, but no one at all, not even in Crazifornia addresses this issue. To them, it does not exist, not even the EPA. Try calling them about airplane particulate, but do not expect a return call or reply.

One-minded empty Crazifornia ideas that are only aimed at TAX MONEY, nothing more.

  6. The first place trucks should not ship to is the capitol and the state warehouses. Let’s see what happens the the stuff the state runs on dries up?? The rich don’t care if it cost a little more. The poor & illegals get it free…so that means us middle class get hosed as always!!

  7. Hydrogen refuels quickly, and is interchangeable with gasoline.

Improve the production in the good old USA and you will have fewer trucks, and if you do then there will be more SHIPPING OUT INSTEAD OF IMPORTING.

It idiots in the Democrat Party have painted themselves into a corner.

Here is a question … Why was Greenland named Greenland?

If you get the right answer need to make sure you are backing the Republican Party and make the Socialist Democrat Party a terrible footnote of history.

  8. These “rule” additions will face a legal challenge and will get tossed. The upside is the “rule” defeat will once again underscore the totalitarian stupidity of the communist democrats.
